This temple dedicated to Hera is located on the outskirts of Metapontum, the "halfway point" between Herakleia and Tarentum.

Legend has it that this is also the burial place of Pythagoras. The first person to call himself a philosopher (lover of wisdom), Pythagoras founded his legendary school further south along the coast at Crotona, circa 500 BCE.

This is the first Greek temple I ever saw. I was stunned by the simplicity of line and perseverance of the building materials.
